Caniapiscau National Park is surrounding a large body of water named the Reservoir de Caniapiscau, which is where the park gets its name. There are large rocky mountains and hiking trails to explore! We also have a wide range of plants and animals which we are greatly protective of! Visit our other pages on this website for more information on Land forms and Climate, Soil, Vegetation, the Eco-Zone and to see an activities map on the park!
Purpose/Why does the park exist ? Caniapiscau National Park exists today because some advocates to the environment stood up for our country. They knew that the park would help protect and preserve the many species of wild life that reside in the park. Furthermore to keep the land from being purchased and used for harmful causes such as an industrial location for factories which will ultimately harm the environment, the wild life and our planet Earth. Considering it is located in the Taiga Shield area industries would like to get their hands on it's rich materials and leave the land dry and lifeless while also destroying the homes of the wildlife and pollution of the Reservoir de Caniapiscau, which is a main characteristic of Caniapiscau National Park.
